“Burned”, produced by Nick Bullock, conveys the familiar sense of feeling stagnant about dealing with an individual’s current situation.  This person grasps that decisive action is crucial, but the path towards that progress is unclear.  The theme is personal and draws from Katie’s experience of competing in season ten of NBC’s The Voice and amassing over 300,000 streams.  Despite the appearance of success, Katie was left in an anxious state of wondering about her next step.

Katie elaborates further on the song’s inspiration as, “I was proud of myself, but I was overwhelmed with how to move forward.  I would have my worst day and best day in a matter of hours and my mental health was taking a nasty beating.”

The single’s illustrative lyrics and effective production highlights the weight of uncertainty, but ultimately, leaves the listener with an encouraging takeaway of the attainable presence of comfort and peace within a period of change.
