Kimzey’s 90.75-point winning ride was highest-marked score in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fl. – Sage Steele Kimzey notched his second Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Unleash The Beast (UTB) victory of the season in front of a sellout crowd Saturday night at Progressive PBR Jacksonville to take over first place in the chase for the 2026 world title.
Kimzey, a native of Strong City, Oklahoma, picked fourth in the draft for the Championship Round, choosing to climb aboard Lights Out for the second time this season, the bull he won on in New York City. The duo combined for another 90-point championship round score – this time for 90.75 points, the high score inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena and the only one to crack 90 points.
“You couldn’t ask for a better bull,” Kimzey said. “If you were creating a player on a video game, that would be the bull that you’d create.”
The seven-time PRCA World Champion leads the standings for the first time in his PBR career after adding 138 in Jacksonville, moving ahead of John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) by 24 points. Kimzey is the second multiple-event winner this season, joining Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas), who won in Manchester and Milwaukee.
Two other riders went 3-for-3 on the weekend.
After riding Elmo for 87.95 points in Round 2, Alex Cerqueira (Iguatemi, Brazil) scored 83.70 points on Big Mac in the short go to place second in Florida. He earned 101 points in the standings where he sits fifth.
With the fifth pick of the draft, Bob Mitchell (Steelville, MO) selected Bex Red Eye, a decision proving fruitful with an 88.25-point ride to take home bronze in Jacksonville and move to No. 17
Felipe Furlan (Sales Oliveira, Brazil) concluded the event in fourth after taking home the first-round win Friday night with an 89.65-point trip aboard Elmo. Furlan picked Cherry Chew in the draft with the sixth overall pick but received a re-ride and was paired with The Player, who he conquered for 89.65 points. Four of Furlan’s past six rides are 89 points or better. He has moved up to No. 25 in the standings.
Closing out the top five was Cort McFadden (Novice, Texas) after besting Mike’s Motive for 88.25 points in the Championship Round on a re-ride attempt. He fought his way into the final round after scoring 86.85 points on Down Payment to make the final twelve. He resides as No. 12 in the standings.
World No. 1 bull Man Hater was the high-scored bull of the event, bucking off Maverick Smith at 3.05 seconds in the Championship Round.
On tonight’s Paramount+ broadcast, it was announced that No. 3 Clay Guiton will miss three months of action following a head injury suffered in Salt Lake City earlier this month. Guiton will be re-evaluated in April and is targeting a return at PBR World Finals (May 7-17) in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Unleash The Beast picks back up in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Feb. 27-28 at Total Mortgage Arena with both nights of action beginning at 7:45 p.m. ET.
