Texas Rattlers Rider Brito seeks second straight PBR Challenger Series victory with 0.5-point lead ahead of Round 2 on Saturday

OCEAN CITY, MD. – As action got underway for the first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series event in Ocean City, Maryland, the world’s best bull riders and bulls showed up and showed out for Round 1 of the Bulls on The Beach – Ocean City PBR. Setting the tone early, Rafael Jose de Brito (Potirendaba, Brazil) inched a step closer towards winning his second consecutive Challenger Series event, victorious in Round 1 in Ocean City.
As the bulls bucked just feet from the Atlantic Ocean, Brito was a picture of perfection atop Judgement Day (Lucas Manning Bucking Bulls). Matching the animal jump-for-jump as the raucous crowd was brough to cheer, the freshly minted Texas Rattlers rider was marked a Round 1-best 86 points.
For his efforts Brito earned 7 Challenger Series points. He expanded his lead atop the PBR Challenger Series standings, now 9.5 points out front of No. 2 Deklan Garland (Foster, Oklahoma).
Michael Lane (Tazewell, Virginia), however, is hot on Brito’s spurs, a mere 0.5 points behind the event lead ahead of Round 2.
As the last man to leave the chutes, Lane answered the call atop Root Cause (J Bar W), reaching the requisite 8 for 85.5 points. Lane’s score netted him 4 Challenger Series points.
Morinec covered Baldy (J Bar W) for 82.5 points.
Lane Nelson (Chase, Michigan) parlayed his 79.5-point score aboard Opp (J Bar W) into a fourth-place finish in Round 1. As the sun set over Ocean City, Nelson left the Inlet having netted 2 Challenger Series points.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth, and the final rider to deliver a score, was Felipe Nogueira (Guaraci, Brazil).
As the first rider the make the 8, Nogueira was marked 79 points atop Open Borders (J Bar W) to collect 1 Challenger Series points.
Action for the Bulls on The Beach – Ocean City PBR, will continue with Round 2 on Saturday, June 4. Action gets underway at 6:00 p.m. ET.
