After an exhilarating opening-night game on Monday in which they logged three qualified rides but went down in heartbreaking defeat, the Carolina Cowboys reversed their fortunes Tuesday evening, winning their first PBR Team Series game in historic fashion. Backed by the first-ever 90-point ride in the PBR Team Series, the Cowboys defeated the Arizona Ridge Riders 177.25-81.25. The Cowboys jumped to a commanding 177.25-0 lead as the contingent delivered unanswered scores in their first two outs. Reining PBR World Champion Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) set the tone immediately, converting in the first out of the game for 87.25 points aboard Oilfield Outlaw’s Yellow Feather (Chad Berger/Oilfield Outlaw’s Bucking Bulls). Following a buckoff from Ridge Riders’ Marco Eguchi (Poa, Brazil), the Cowboys’ Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas) reached the 8 for a monstrous 90 points on Dr. Campbell (Nancy Haverty/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) as the raucous Cheyenne Frontier Days crowd erupted in cheer. The Ridge Riders remained scoreless as Paulo Lima (Bezerros, Brazil) hit the ground short of the 8 during his trip with Milk Mustache (Ty Rinaldo TZ Bucking Bulls). However, the Cowboys left the door open in the next round of outs when suffering their first buckoff, with Wingson da Silva (Navirai, Brazil) unable to cover Experiment 626 (Classic Jack Cattle/Viducic Bucking Bulls). The Ridge Riders seized the moment as preseason standout Alisson de Souza (Taubate, Brazil) put Arizona’s first points on the board, riding Smokestack (Sharp/Wilson/American Spirits/C-M) for 81.25 points. After each team was unable to cover in their next set of outs, the game came down to Mason Taylor (Maypearl, Texas) for the Cowboys and Luciano de Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) for the Ridge Riders. After Taylor was awarded a re-ride, Castro needed a score in excess of 96 points atop Bubba G (Dakota Rodeo/Brian & Ashley Pintar/Clay Struve/Chad Berger) to clinch to the win. Despite a gritty effort, Castro came down in an ever-close 7.52 seconds, handing the Cowboys the win. When the dust settled, the Carolina Cowboys (1-1) defeated the Arizona Ridge Riders (1-1) by 96 points.

“We’re pretty excited right now. Our guys stepped up to the plate,” said Carolina Cowboys Head Coach Jerome Davis. “After last night, we rebounded pretty good, so we’re feeling good going into the bonus round.” 

“Carolina Cowboys – we’re all a team, we’re all together and we’re solid,” said the Carolina Cowboys’ Boudreaux Campbell. “Every one of us rides good, and we all have the talent to win the world title. We’re going to be in the Championship at the end of the year.” 

Missouri Thunder Edge Nashville Stampede by One Score to Go a Perfect 2-0 During Game Play in Cheyenne, Wyoming

The Missouri Thunder continued to ride supreme in Cheyenne Tuesday evening, winning their second game in as many days when they defeated the Nashville Stampede by one ride score. As both teams entered the showdown fresh off Monday night victories, the intensity was undeniable from the moment the first chute gate cracked open. First out, Jesse Petri (Dublin, Texas) outlasted Cold Chill (D&H Cattle Co./Futrell) to give the Thunder a brief 85.75-point lead. Not to be outdone, Thiago Salgado (Navirai, Brazil) gave the Nashville Stampede a 1.25-point lead when he reached the whistle atop Whiplash (Blake Sharp/Floyd Lowery/CB &Traci Lee) for 87 points. While the second round of riders yielded a buckoff for the Thunder, the Stampede was awarded a re-ride following Fernando Henrique Novais’s (Pereira Barreto, Brazil) trip with Stone Colder (D&H Cattle Company). As the game rolled on, the Missouri Thunder righted the ship when Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) kept in perfect time with Chanler’s Dream (Universal Pro Rodeo) for 88.5 points, earning the team its second qualified ride and go-ahead score. Unable to keep his team even with the Thunder, 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) was upended by Shake & Bake (Ty Rinaldo TZ Bucking Bulls) in 3.17 seconds. Following buckoffs from Clayton Sellars (Fruitland Park, Florida) for the Thunder and Joao Henrique Lucas (Bastos, Brazil) for the Stampede, the Thunder found themselves with one out left, while the Stampede had two, each having a viable pathway to victory. The Thunder’s first round draft pick, Colten Fritzlan (Rifle, Colorado), was unable to clinch the victory for his team, bested by Off Campus (Dakota Rodeo/Brian & Ashley Pintar/Clay Struve/Chad Berger), opening the door for the Stampede’s Novais and Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) to make a come-from-behind push for the win. However, the two Stampede riders were unable to rise to the occasion, allowing the Thunder to win the game 174.25-87. At the conclusion of the game, the Thunder (2-0) advanced to the bonus round with an unblemished record, while the Stampede (1-1) readied for their final out with a split record.

“We couldn’t be more happy with this win,” said Missouri Thunder Co-Head Coach Luke Snyder. “We are the first team, I think, to go in with a perfect record at the first inaugural Teams event. The boys showed up with a fire in their eyes. We just love the camaraderie of this, and it’s just going to lead us into a great six months.” 

“You know when you’re at the Daddy of ‘Em All,” said Missouri Thunder’s Andrew Alvidrez. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamt of being here, and now that we’re here, I’m just tickled. I’m thankful.”  

Late-Game Surge Earns Kansas City Outlaws First Victory Against Ariat Texas Rattlers

The Kansas City Outlaws finally got hot when it counted in the second half of game three Tuesday night in Cheyenne, outlasting the Ariat Texas Rattlers to earn the team’s first victory in the PBR Team Series, 173-85.75. After each team went three up, three down, the scoreboard read 0.00-0.00 as the game eclipsed the halfway point. The momentum, however, was quick to swing. Proving to be a key member of the Kansas City Outlaws, Marcus Mast (Middlebury, Indiana) was first to convert, covering Hundred Bad Days (TNT Bucking Bulls) for 87 points. The Rattlers answered quickly; Rafael Jose de Brito (Potirendaba, Brazil) rode Slim Shady (Hadley Cattle Co.) for 85.75 points, cutting the Outlaws’ lead to a slim 1.25 points with just one rider remaining for each team. First round draft pick Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) was the final rider to compete for the Outlaws in the game’s fifth frame, punctuating his team’s effort with an 86-point score aboard WSM’s Nasty Wishes (WSM Auctioneers/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger). The game then came down to Ariat Texas Rattlers free agent and young gun JC Mortensen (Chino Valley, Arizona). Initially matched with Gangster Bones (TNT Bucking Bulls), Mortensen was unable to leave the chutes, earning a re-ride and heightening the tension on both team benches. Facing Sugar Boom Boom (Cornwell Bucking Bulls/Circle G), Mortensen was unable to be the hero his team needed, coming down in 2.15 seconds. The win was the first for the Kansas City Outlaws (1-1) in Cheyenne, while the Ariat Texas Rattlers (0-2) faced the bonus round winless in game play.

“After getting blanked on Monday night, this win feels really good,” said Kansas City Outlaws Head Coach J.W. Hart.

Two-Time PBR World Champion and Franchise Bedrock Jose Vitor Leme Delivers Walk-Off Score for Austin Gamblers to Defeat Oklahoma Freedom in Game’s Final Out

An intense back-and-forth showdown between the Austin Gamblers and Oklahoma Freedom came down to the final out of the game. Two-time PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) stepped up to deliver a walk-off score in the final out of the game to lead the Gamblers to their first win of the young season. As the final game of the inaugural PBR Team Series event in Cheyenne, Wyoming, got underway, the Gamblers were the first to strike. Following an Oklahoma Freedom buckoff from Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington), Dakota Louis (Browning, Montana) gave Austin an 85.25-point lead when he covered Light’s Out (Jane Clark/Gene Owen). The Gamblers then padded their lead in the second round. With the Freedom again failing to register a score, as Briggs Madsen (Tremonton, Utah) was upended by Dr. X (Universal Pro Rodeo/Pepper/Freeman Cattle Co.), Claudio Montanha Jr. (Pacembu, Brazil) delivered a gritty 86.25-point ride atop Homebru (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) to grow the Gamblers’ lead to 171.5 points. As the game approached the halfway point, however, the Oklahoma Freedom awakened a newfound fire. First-round draft pick Eli Vastbinder (Statesville, North Carolina) launched a wave of momentum that kept the Freedom’s hopes of victory alive. Vastbinder covered Surprise Package (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 86.25 points and, coupled with a Gamblers buckoff from Austin Richardson (Dallas, Texas), the Sooner State outfit pulled within 85.25 points of their rivals. The Freedom then delivered the second 90-point ride of the PBR Team Series as Casey Roberts (Munford, Alabama) dominated Magic Bru (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) for a monstrous 90.25 points. The significance of the ride was amplified when Blake Smith (Abbey, Saskatchewan, Canada) was denied a ride in the Gamblers’ fourth out, giving the Freedom a mere 5-point lead with one rider left for each team. The Freedom’s surge, however, came to a crushing end when Trevor Kastner (Ardmore, Oklahoma) was dispatched by Born To Sin (Logan Clancey/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger). Needing a score in the bottom of the fifth frame, the final rider to compete for the Gamblers was none other than Leme. The home-run hitter proved why he was the No. 1 overall pick in the PBR Team Series draft and signed last week by the Gamblers to a long-term deal, clinching the victory when he covered Lil Hott (Stinger/Brunner/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 86 points. With a deafening roar erupting inside the iconic rodeo venue, the Austin Gamblers earned their first win, 257.5-176.5. With the bonus round awaiting each team, the Gamblers (1-1) continued on amidst a surge of success, while the Freedom (0-2), who were shut out in game play, regrouped to conclude the event on a successful note.

“Feels fantastic. I think we ended up with a third-place finish, and obviously the best one we’ve had since preseason,” said Austin Gamblers Head Coach Michael Gaffney. “I’m really proud of our guys. We had to make some adjustments from our roster from last night tonight, and I feel really good leaving here this weekend that it was the right adjustment. We got both bulls ridden we’ve ever seen in our team. I’m just I’m really proud of these guys.”
