Award-winning, double-platinum selling artist Mick Flannery has officially announced his eighth studio album ‘Goodtime Charlie’ due to be released in September. Also being announced today, is a special signing for North America with Oh Boy Records, the legendary label started by multiple Grammy winner, songwriter John Prine, in 1981. Flannery is the label’s first international signing.

Mick is acknowledged by many as one of Ireland’s most cherished songwriters, this will resonate with many fans and industry alike as a perfect partnership for Mick’s next offering. Mick also announces a string of North American tour dates today in support of the album’s release this coming September, including headline shows in New York City, Toronto, and Boston. These shows join an array of previously announced tours in Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, UK, and Ireland.
Goodtime Charlie has more collaborative songwriting on it than any previous records. “It sparks you out of your comfort zone,” Mick says, “It opens up the neural pathways, you wonder ‘how would someone else do this?’. Collaborators on the album include Valerie June, Tianna Esperanza, Anaïs Mitchell all performing alongside Mick in a trinity of stunning duets, and Ana Egge, Justin Stanley, Adam Landry, longtime collaborator Tony Buchen and Andrew House (Christy Skulls) on co-writing duties.
Recorded in Cork with old friend, drummer, and producer Christian Best. Today’s announcement was preceded by the albums namesake single ‘Goodtime Charlie’ which was released last month, and has been playlisted on numerous stations near and far since its release. ‘Goodtime Charlie’ is quite the departure from the epic ballads featured on his previous record ‘In The Game’. It embodies an infectious melody and upbeat tempo in an effort, Flannery cites in the song, to help us ‘grumpy mother f***ers let go’, and indeed he does. By the second chorus it’s a hook, line, and sinker.

Mick Flannery is one of Ireland’s most acclaimed songwriters and singers. The award-winning, double-platinum selling artist has released seven studio albums, three of which have reached No. 1 status.
“Mick Flannery has a voice for the ages, a complete Master of his craft” cited by Clash Magazine, whilst The Sunday Times said he “conjures up exquisite story-telling.” His last album in 2021 consisted of a collection of duets with up and coming Irish artist Susan O’Neill. American Songwriter called ‘In The Game’ a “Sorrowful Masterpiece.” The record was nominated for the Choice Music Prize, and won the RTE Radio 1 song of the year two years in a row for tracks ‘Baby Talk’ and ‘Chain Reaction.’ The album was the biggest selling independent record in Ireland in 2021. Mick’s debut album ‘Evening Train’ is currently in development as a stage musical, due to be back on the stage later in 2024.
Mick Flannery’s songs are fluent in expressing layered aspects of the human condition, its flaws, triumphs, and general uncertainty.
