Inspired by a relationship gone awry, Ain’t That Crazy tells the story of the protagonist’s partner trying to convince them that all of their exes were crazy. However, as the relationship unfolds, it becomes clear that the problem lies within the partner, not the exes.

“The song was written as a way to shed light on the reality of being gaslighted and manipulated by somebody who refused to take responsibility for their own actions and what that looks like from the ‘crazy ex’ side,” Wilder explained. “But at the same time, I wanted it to be something fun and empowering that people can sing along and dance to.”
